Flatten PDF
Flatten a PDF so text, form fields and annotations become part of the page and can no longer be edited separately.
Each page is rendered at the resolution you choose, so the result is no longer searchable — keep your original.
Flatten PDF online
Flatten a PDF so text, form fields, annotations, and other content become part of the page and can no longer be edited separately. It’s how you turn a fillable form into a finished, non-editable copy, keep a signature and filled-in answers in place when you send a document on, or convert an interactive PDF into a flat one that looks the same in every viewer. Velprio processes your file directly in your browser, so it is never uploaded to our servers.
Useful for signed documents, contracts, engineering drawings, forms, quotations, and anything with annotations you want to preserve.
What does flattening a PDF do?
Flattening combines a document’s editable elements into the page itself. Form fields, annotations and other interactive elements can no longer be changed separately, so the file looks the same wherever it is opened or printed.
Velprio does this by rendering every page at the resolution you choose and rebuilding the document from those pages. That is a thorough flatten — nothing interactive survives it — but it means the finished PDF’s text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and the file is usually larger than the original. Keep your unflattened copy if you may need the searchable or editable version again.
When should you flatten a PDF?
- Before sharing a completed form
- To prevent form fields from being edited
- To preserve annotations when sending a document
- Before printing or submitting a finalized document

Why use Velprio’s online PDF flattener?
Private by design
Signed contracts, legal forms, corporate invoices, engineering drawings — the whole document is processed inside your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and there is no server-side copy to leak.
Form fields and annotations merged in
Interactive checkboxes, fillable text boxes, stamps and marked-up remarks all become part of the page itself. What the recipient opens is what you saw, with nothing left for them to click into and change.
You choose the resolution
Because flattening renders each page, the resolution is yours to set: a screen preset for documents to be read on a display, a print preset for anything that will be printed or zoomed into, or an exact DPI value of your own. JPEG keeps the file smaller at a quality you control; PNG is lossless but considerably heavier.
Check the document before you commit
Every page appears as a preview, and any of them can be opened full size first. Flattening is not reversible, so it is worth a look — keep your original if you may need the editable version again.
Frequently asked questions about PDF flattening
Is Velprio free?
Yes. The browser-based flatten tool is free, with no account or sign-up required.
Does flattening a PDF upload it to a server?
No. Velprio flattens the file inside your browser on your own device, so there is no copy on a server to be kept, leaked or accessed. That makes it a sensible choice for signed contracts, tax forms and other filled-in documents.
Will my filled-in answers and signature still show after flattening?
Yes — and you can check before you commit. The page previews are drawn the same way the flattened pages are, so if your answers, ticks, signature and comments appear in the preview, they will appear in the flattened PDF. Open any page full size to look closely.
Will the text still be searchable after flattening?
No. Flattening renders each page as an image, so the finished PDF looks identical but its text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and screen readers cannot read it. If you need the document to stay searchable, keep an unflattened copy of it.
How do I make a fillable PDF non-editable?
Flatten it. Form fields, annotations and text are merged into the page, so they can no longer be clicked into or changed separately in a PDF viewer — which is what most people mean by "non-editable". It is not encryption or password protection, though, and specialized software could still alter or recreate the content. If you need genuine access control, use a password or permissions tool instead.
Will the flattened file be bigger than the original?
Usually yes, because each page becomes an image. A higher resolution or the PNG format increases the size further. If the result is larger than you need, flatten again at a lower DPI or switch to JPEG.
Which resolution should I choose?
The screen preset suits documents that will be read on a display. The print preset is sharper and better for anything that will be printed or zoomed into, such as an engineering drawing, fine print or a scanned signature. You can also type an exact DPI value of your own — higher keeps thin lines and small text sharper, at the cost of a larger file.
Can I flatten a password-protected PDF?
It depends on the kind of protection. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying usually open normally. A PDF that asks for a password before it will open cannot be read here — remove the password first in the app that created it, then try again.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — so it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, with nothing to install. On a phone, the screen preset is quicker for long documents.
